چکیده

Abstract. We present the development of a chemical ionization mass spectrometer ion source specifically designed for in situ measurements trace gases upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. The utilizes commercially available photoionization krypton lamp, primarily emitting photons vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region at wavelengths 124 117 nm (corresponding to energies 10 10.6 eV, respectively), coupled Vocus proton transfer reaction spectrometer. VUV can produce both negative positive reagent ions; however, here we focus on generating iodide anions (I−). instrument's drift tube (also known as ion–molecule reactor) operates pressures between 2 mbar, which facilitates ambient sampling atmospheric low 50 mbar. operating pressure reduces secondary chemistry that occur spectrometry (CIMS). It also allows addition water vapor exceed typical humidity by more than 1 order magnitude, significantly reducing dependence sensitivities. An additional benefit this is 10- 100-fold reduction nitrogen consumed during operation relative standard I− sources, resulting reduced instrument weight operational costs. In mode, sensitivities 76 cps ppt−1 nitric acid, 35 Br2 8.9 Cl2 were achieved. Lastly, demonstrate generate benzene (C6H6+) ammonium (NH4+) ions expand number detected gases.

Performance of a corona ion source for measurement of sulfuric acid by chemical ionization mass spectrometry

The performance of an ion source based on corona discharge has been studied. This source is used for the detection of gaseous sulfuric acid by chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS) through the reaction of NO−3 ions with H2SO4. The ion source is operated under atmospheric pressure and its design is similar to the one of a radioactive (americium-241) ion source which has been used previous...

Development of ion drift-chemical ionization mass spectrometry.

An ion drift-chemical ionization mass spectrometry (ID-CIMS) technique has been developed to detect and quantify trace gases, including volatile organic compounds and inorganic species. The trace species are chemically ionized into positive or negative product ions with a well-controlled ion-molecule reaction time. The ID-CIMS method allows for quantification of the trace gases without the nece...

Plasma polyamines determined by negative-ion chemical ionization/mass spectrometry.

We have developed an accurate and highly sensitive gas-chromatographic/mass-spectrometric procedure for determining di- and polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) in plasma and erythrocytes. Deuterium-labeled analogs of putrescine, spermidine, and spermine were synthesized for use as internal standards. Trifluoroacetyl derivatives of the polyamines were formed during the procedure an...

Secondary ionization of chemical warfare agent simulants: atmospheric pressure ion mobility time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

For the first time, the use of a traditional ionization source for ion mobility spectrometry (radioactive nickel ((63)Ni) beta emission ionization) and three alternative ionization sources (electrospray ionization (ESI), secondary electrospray ionization (SESI), and electrical discharge (corona) ionization (CI)) were employed with an atmospheric pressure ion mobility orthogonal reflector time-o...
